erpification

noun / ˌɜːr piː fɪˈkeɪ ʃən / also ERPification

1.

The action of bringing an ERP into a business: choosing one system of record, shaping the company's processes around it, and moving the whole operation onto it.

2.

The period a business spends doing so. "We are six months into erpification and purchasing is already on it."

Origin. ERP (enterprise resource planning) + -ification, on the model of electrification and digitization. Coined 2026.

Why a word

Every growing company reaches the day the spreadsheets stop agreeing.

Electrification had a word. Digitization had a word. The most consequential operating change a mid-sized business makes, moving from a pile of tools and tabs to one system of record, had none.

Without a name, the change gets described as a software purchase, and budgeted and staffed like one. Erpification names the whole thing: the decision, the process redesign, the data clean-up, the training, the go-live, and the months after. The software is the smallest part.

The sequence

The six stages of erpification

Every erpification runs through the same stages, in this order. Skipping one moves its cost to go-live.

  1. Discoverycurrent-state map
  2. Selectionsigned scope
  3. Process designthe blueprint
  4. Data migrationloads that reconcile
  5. Testinggo / no-go
  6. Cutoverfirst close in the system

The sequenceEach stage produces one thing the next stage needs. Skipping a stage does not remove its work, it moves that work downstream to cutover.

  1. Discovery

Inventory every process, tool, and spreadsheet the business runs on. Find who re-keys what, and how many times.

    current-state map
  2. Selection

Shortlist, scripted demos on your own data, and a fit-gap on the processes that matter. Price the gaps, not the licence.

    signed scope and budget
  3. Process design

Future-state processes, chart of accounts, item master, units of measure, roles and approvals. Decisions made here are cheap; the same decisions at cutover are not.

    the blueprint
  4. Data migration

Cleanse, map, load: customers, vendors, SKUs, bills of materials, open orders, open balances. The real work of erpification is usually here.

    trial loads that reconcile
  5. Testing and training

End-to-end scripts from quote to cash and purchase to pay, run by the people who will do the job. Super users emerge here.

    go / no-go
  6. Cutover and hypercare

Transaction freeze, final load, go-live, and weeks of close support while habits move over.

Usage note

What erpification is not

Not a software purchase

The licence is a line item. Erpification is a change in how the business operates, owned by the business, not the vendor.

Not an IT project

The people who decide are the ones who run purchasing, production, sales, and finance. IT keeps the lights on; operations decides what the lights are for.

Not finished at go-live

Go-live is the midpoint. Erpification ends when the first month has been closed in the system and nobody has reopened the old spreadsheets.

What we do

We erpify businesses.

That is the practice, and it is the whole of it. We take a company running on spreadsheets, inboxes and memory, and move it onto one system of record: the six stages above, run end to end alongside your own team.

Evaluation

Every engagement starts here, and it stands on its own. We map what the business actually runs on, where the same number is kept in three places, and what that costs you in days, errors and cash. You keep the current-state map and the plan whether or not you continue with us.

Selection and design

A shortlist and scripted demos on your own data, a fit-gap on the processes that matter, then the future-state design: chart of accounts, item master, units of measure, roles and approvals. These decisions are cheap here and expensive at cutover.

Migration and go-live

Cleansing, mapping and loading your data, end-to-end testing run by the people who will do the job, then cutover and the weeks of support after it, until the first month-end is closed in the new system.
